I have been asked quite a bit lately how to go about getting your money from Fidelity, Schwab, or the like into Bitcoin. Using a Fidelity account as the example, here is the general step-by-step guide to moving money from Fidelity to Bitcoin. As you will see, this is why Bitcoin will make a huge difference in settled transactions going forward.

  1. Sell stocks on Fidelity and let the funds settle. The funds will take two days to settle.
  2. Transfer money to bank account and let funds settle. This could also take a day or two to settle at your bank.
  3. Transfer money to Coinbase, Coinbase Pro, Bittrex, Binance, or a similar exchange. This should be immediate. Depending on how much money you move, you will have access to spend fairly quickly.
  4. Buy crypto. You should be able to buy with your funds right away. The exchange will also have a settlement period, but that is only to slow down withdrawals.
